What is an "advertising calendar?" From a March 2011 study released by PPAI on the use of calendars in the workplace, this is the definition: "An advertising calendar is one that is customized and imprinted, usually with the company name, logo and contact information. These calendars are promotional in nature and are typically given out for free by a company to its customers, vendors, prospects and sometimes employees.”
You might think that with the advent of the Internet, the iPhone, the iPad, and electronic communication devices of all types that the days of most people needing and using the printed paper calendar are over and done with. Surprisingly, you would be wrong.
According to the 2011 PPAI study, 70 questions were developed relating to the use and type of calendars used by workers across all types of industries. The study was emailed to 1,050 U.S. based-businesses of varying types and sizes. Some of the highlights of the study's results were:
- 84.0% of respondents reported that calendars were either important, very important or extremely important in their daily activities.
- 76.0% of respondents had at least one advertising calendar in their work space.
- 75.0% recipients of an advertising calendar remembered the name of the company
- 77.3% remembered the product or service advertised on the calendar.
- 82.5% had previously done business with the company that gave them the advertising calendar.
- 83.5% of the recipients of the advertising calendar plan to do business with the advertiser in the future.
- 61.2% of the recipients had a more favorable impression of the advertiser as a result of receiving the advertising calendar.
- 48.8% of the respondents reported referring someone else to the advertiser on the calendar
The types of advertising calendars most favored by the respondents in the study were:
- 48% preferred a wall calendar, either located centrally in the office or in the workspace
- 34% preferred a desk calendar located in their own workspace
Reasons why people feel the need to refer to a calendar:
- For to-do lists
- To keep track of other people's appointments
